A Ruwa man has escaped a jail term after he was convicted for attempting to kill his wife following a domestic dispute.

Harare regional magistrate Themba Kuwanda initially sentenced Trymore Chipwanya to two years in prison, before suspending one year on condition of good behaviour.

The remaining 12 months were set aside on condition Chipwanya performs 420 hours of community service at Greystone Park Clinic.

According to State papers, Chipwanya and his wife Melody Gorosviba are both farm workers at Horpit Farm in Harare's Ruwa area.

The court heard that the incident took place in May this year, when the two had a heated domestic argument.

Gorosviba, who was in the company of her sister, left home while Chipwanya followed the duo from a distance.

According to court papers, Chipwanya caught up with the two along Dhabuka Road in Ruwa.

The 31-year-old man grabbed Gorosviba by the waist  and she fell down.

He went on to stab his wife several times on the head and on the back.

He further stabbed her once on the face and on the left hand using a knife.

According to court papers, the 22-year-old woman fell unconscious and when she woke up, she was bleeding.

The court heard Chipwanya disappeared from the scene.

Gorosviba was taken to hospital, while a police report was made, leading to Chipwanya's arrest.
