A MUTARE man from Yeovil medium-density suburb last Saturday fell prey to two unknown car-jackers who robbed him of his Isuzu truck and three cellphones, all amounting to US$9 200.
Acting Manicaland provincial police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Luxson Chananda confirmed the incident - adding that motorists should not give lifts to strangers.
He said Patrick Makowa (37) of Chimoio Street in Yeovil was hired by two unknown males to Penhalonga last Saturday afternoon.
He was driving an Isuzu single cab, black and white in colour when he was approached by the two suspects.
"Upon arrival at St Augustine's turn-off, the two accused persons ordered Makowa to turn into a dusty road.
"They drove for about 200 metres off the tarred road and they ordered Makowa to stop. They demanded his car keys.
"One of the suspects produced what appeared to be a toy pistol and forcibly grabbed Makowa's three Nokia cell phones and the car keys from the ignition.
"Makowa tried to get back his car keys, but was stabbed once on his right hand and bled profusely," said Asst Insp Chananda.
He said the two tied Makowa's hands and legs with a nylon rope and threw him into the vehicle loading box.
"The robbers drove the vehicle towards Christmas Pass, but upon arrival at Imbeza turn-off, they threw Makowa into the bush by the roadside and sped off.
"Makowa was helped by an unknown passerby, who took him to ZRP Penhalonga where he made a report.
"ZRP Penhalonga in conjunction with CID and the canine section attended the scene and recovered Makowa's pair of shoes and a car radio remote controller," he said.
A manhunt for the suspects has been launched.
