A 26-year-old Harare man committed suicide by hanging himself from a tree on Sunday after failing to live with the pain of being ditched by his wife.
Harare provincial police spokesperson Inspector Tedius Chibanda confirmed the incident, saying investigations were in progress in the matter which occurred in Queensdale suburb.
"We received a report following the death of Morris Mayor of number 5 Shaftesbury Road who killed himself by hanging from a tree at his house after failing to stomach the pain of being left by his wife. He killed himself after sending a cell phone message to his wife pleading with her to come back home before indicating that he was going to kill himself.
"Investigations are in progress to establish what really transpired," he said
It is alleged that on the night of November 30 Morris and his brother Isaac went to a night club before returning home at around 1am. As they returned home it is alleged that both Morris and Isaac retired to bed but Morris managed to sneak outside the house and hanged himself from an avocado tree located in their yard.
According to police reports Isaac discovered his brother hanging from a tree that morning and reported to the police.
It is reported that a cell phone message was later found in his mobile phone which he had sent to his wife pleading with her to return back to their matrimonial home before he indicated that he would kill himself.
