Opposition MDC-T top official Eddie Cross has given thumbs up to government's new economic blueprint, Zim Asset saying it is a moderate document with potential to drag the country out of the economic mess, zimbabwefocus.com reported.
Cross is a Zanu-PF well known critic and his rare praise has shocked most people.
Speaking at seminar to unpack the key components of the economic blueprint Zim Asset he said its a good document that will solve economic problems.
"This is an extremely moderate document, listening to Patrick Chinamasa (Finance Minister) talking you understand this is the language that will drive the nation to achieve the prospects of the blueprint," he said.
However, he had no kind words for former Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe governor Gideon Gono.
Gono stepped down at the end of October after completing his two terms in office.
"The main agenda should be to analyse the root of the problems. As long as we prescribe these problems to sanctions, we are not going anywhere.
"We cannot say the 250 million percent inflation in 2008 is about sanctions alone, but let us talk about Gono as well, he is the man who destroyed the country," he said.
Cross claim that the international community gave a cold shoulder to suggestion that Gono's term be extended for one more year.
"This was because he is the man who created the crisis, destroyed the economy. We have technology to show that there was reckless printing of money at the Reserve Bank, as well as gross mismanagement of foreign currency resources and when we have things like price controls the economy shall always go down as was the case," he said.
