A CHIPINGE woman opted to end her life after failing to stomach her husband's stinginess last Wednesday.
It is alleged that the husband was not supporting his family and he was in the habit of rationing the little food and money they had, leaving his family wallowing in poverty.
The suicide happened last week at Mwasuke homestead in Mahenye Village under Chief Garahwa in Chipinge.
Grace Maroyi (29) died after consuming rat poison because her husband, Reuben Mwasuke (34) was very stingy with food and money.
It is alleged that on the day in question, Grace invited her aunt, Mucheta Moyana to her homestead where the two discussed problems that were bedeviling the former's marriage.
Manicaland provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Enock Chishiri, said Grace told her aunt that Reuben was not looking after the family well.
She said that her husband was in the habit of hiding groceries and money from the family saying they were over spending.
"Grace further complained that she had suffered enough since her husband was also abusing them emotionally and physically. She told her aunt that it was time for her to die so that her stingy husband would change his behaviour for the sake of the children.
"Mucheta tried to cool her temper by telling her that they would solve the matter as a family with the elders, but she was told that it was too late for that.
"Grace advised Mucheta to look after her children since she had consumed rat poison. Soon after the discussion she started vomiting some black substances.
"She was taken to St Peter's Mission Hospital and on the way she begged her aunt to take care of her children and not to leave them with their father Reuben," said Insp Chishiri.
He said Grace died along the way to the hospital. A police report was made by Reuben and Grace's body was taken to St Peter's Mission Hospital for post mortem.
