Mugabe gets a BULL

BULAWAYO - President Robert Mugabe on Wednesday added a bull to his herd from Lupane State University (LSU) as a token of appreciation for gracing this year's 4th graduation ceremony.
Public relations officer for Lupane State University Zwelithini Dhlamini told the Daily News the institution decided to give Mugabe a bull because it bears the same qualities with the president.
"We saw it fit as an institution to present the bull to the president because a bull is in charge of a herd just as he is. He has been seriously involved in the development of the country, has been resilient and he sacrificed his own interests for the benefit of country," Dhlamini said.
"A bull can face harsh climatic conditions the same way our president can, as he has been able to face the sanctions and persecutions during the war.
"We feel the people of Matabeleland North have been empowered as we have benefited a lot from the president and as a result we just want to appreciate his visionary leadership," he added.
It was all smiles as the 89-year-old in turn appreciated his gift.
"I want to express my appreciation for the bull," he said, seemingly excited.
Mugabe, who capped 190 students at the fourth graduation ceremony, officially opened the Faculty of Agriculture Building.
In his report to the president, Maclean Bhala, the Lupane State University acting vice chancellor, said the opening of the agricultural block was just but a hint that construction of the rest of the campus would take a faster pace and the agricultural sector would assist in building the economy.
"With the official opening of the agricultural block today we foresee an even bigger drive to expedite the completion of the student block and indeed an even faster rate in the construction of our staff houses and flatlets," he said.
"The university is mindful of its obligation in assisting government in the fulfilment of the objectives of the new economic blueprint Zim Asset, especially on matters of education and food production so they identified a piece of land within the campus for livestock breeding which will be managed by the agricultural faculty," he said.
Bhala said the State university, which has benefited through a number of fundraising programmes, still has a long way to go to meet the 2014 deadline which they had set.
"The fundraising programme initiated by the late Vice President John Landa Nkomo in 2011 leveraged the institution above its humble beginnings."
LSU had a strategic plan to relocate to its site by the end of 2014, all things being equal, but still had some mileage to cover the fulfilment of that dream.
