A BULAWAYO woman sustained a deep cut on the head and facial bruises after a thorough beating from her estranged husband who took his girlfriend's side in a cat-fight between the two love rivals.
Eunice Masuku of Nketa suburb was rushed to hospital after Lindani Dube descended on her with a flurry of punches to the face before striking her with a stone on the head.
Masuku had pushed Dube's pregnant girlfriend, who was not named, to the ground after she came across the two lovebirds walking hand-in-hand, a magistrate heard yesterday.
Bulawayo Western Commonage provincial resident magistrate Maphios Willard Moyo heard how the enraged Dube, 35, of House Number 7921/21 Sizinda, turned his jealous ex-wife into a punching bag.
Prosecuting, Sibekithemba Dube, narrated how on December 1, Masuku, 29, met her estranged husband walking hand-in-hand with his pregnant girlfriend.
The two lovers were walking from Nketa 9 to Sizinda suburb. Masuku got angry and in a fit of jealousy, confronted her rival and pushed her to the ground accusing her of "snatching" her man.
"Dube was walking hand in hand with his pregnant girlfriend when they came across Masuku near Intundla Primary School in Tshabalala suburb.
"The agitated Masuku confronted the pair and pushed her ex-husband's girlfriend to the ground and it did not go down well with Dube who immediately descended on Masuku," said Dube.
The court was told that Dube punched Masuku several times on the face before striking her with a stone. The complainant sustained a deep cut in the head and facial bruises and had to be rushed to hospital.
A report was made to the police leading to Dube's arrest. The magistrate convicted Dube on his own plea of guilty to charges of physical abuse and sentenced him to three months in jail, which were wholly suspended on condition that he performs 105 hours of community service.
