A 29-year-old Goromonzi man was at the weekend electrocuted after touching a naked live electricity cable while drinking water from a tap.

Mashonaland East assistant provincial police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Tendai Mwanza confirmed the incident, saying investigations were in progress.

"We received a report following the death of Talent Kunje of Plot 2 Xanado Farm who died on the spot after touching a naked live electricity wire while drinking water from a tap.

"Investigations are in progress to establish what really transpired," he said.

It is alleged that on December 8 at around 3pm Kunje proceeded to a water tap located at the farm where he started drinking water directly from the tap.

According to police reports, it is alleged that as Kunje was drinking water he touched a naked live electricity cable and got electrocuted.

Police reports indicate that Kunje died on the spot.

A fellow villager who witnessed the incident reported the matter at Dema police station.

The police  attended the scene and took Kunje's body to Chitungwiza Central Hospital for post-mortem.

Asst Insp Mwanza appealed to members of the public to desist from tampering with live electricity cables.

He urged people to quickly report to any nearest ZESA offices whenever they encounter naked electricity cables.
