The Zimbabwe Revenue Authority (Zimra) says it has put in place adequate measures to deal with the increase in human traffic at the country's busiest border posts which is common during the festive season.

The revenue authority, which has been criticised in the past for failing to deal with the increase in human traffic during the Christmas holidays, says it has put in place measures to ensure there will not be long queues at the country's busiest border ports in particular, Beitbridge.

Finance and Corporate Planning Director Robert Mangwiro said the authority has deployed more personnel to the border posts to deal with the envisaged increase in human traffic.

Mr Mangwiro said the on going rolling out of the single window border agency through the automated system for customs data (ASYCUDA) world is envisaged to assist in the automation of the customs processes on the importation of goods.

It is estimated that Beitbridge Border Post handles an average of 25 000 travelers a day during the festive season.

In the past, the revenue authority has been blamed over delays at the border posts due to the prolonged customs procedures.
