A drunk Harare driver recently drove his vehicle against a one way lane and killed two people on the spot after he was involved in an accident.
John Muchabaya (35) of Glen View 7 Extension had one too many on April 15, before he went behind the wheel at around 4:20am. He was driving an Isuzu Bighorn against a one way lane along Seke Road due north with one passenger on board.
Muchabaya failed to control his vehicle and side-swiped an oncoming Toyota truck which had 15 passengers. The impact resulted in the death of a 46-year-old woman and a five-year-old child.
Fourteen seriously injured passengers from both vehicles were rushed to Chitungwiza Central Hospital, while the bodies of the deceased were taken to the hospital's mortuary.
Muchabaya pleaded guilty to two counts of negligent driving and driving under the influence of alcohol when he appeared before Chitungwiza magistrate Mr Kudakwashe Jarabini yesterday.
He was remanded out of custody after his lawyer asked the matter to be rolled over to Monday next week for mitigation and sentencing.
