Chitungwiza residents whose houses might be demolished after they failed to follow the proper procedures in acquiring stands have pleaded with government to punish land barons as well as find ways of helping affected families.
They say they are yet to come to terms with the reality that their houses might be destroyed as recommended by the audit report.
A visit by reporters to Unit A revealed a sorry state as families are still in the dark on what course of action will be taken by government as no official communication has been received yet.
The residents questioned government officials' sincerity arguing that the structures were built literally in their view.
The residents said they are willing to meet with Dr Fredrick Mabamba, who sold the land to them, to have a clearer picture of their plight.
Government has embarked on a programme to bring sanity to the cities after realising that the houses have been built on wet lands with some too close to electricity points, which is against council bylaws.
In Chitungwiza, the "United We Stand Multi-Purpose Housing Co-operative" is said to have illegally sold over 20 thousand stands raking in over $20 million.
