There was drama at the Mbare Magistrate's court last week when a Harare woman was caught waving a leaf during the trial of her suspected armed robber son.

The mother of Blessing Guzheti (21) , of Waterfalls, pulled

the stunt which is believed to be associated with the use of juju, as the trial of her son opened before Magistrate Ms Precious Muzondo on Thursday.

She took the leaf from her bra and began to wave it while court was in session. However, the woman's "magic wand" was not waved for long as an alert prosecutor, Mr Ephraim Zinyandu, alerted Ms Muzondo who ordered the woman to be escorted out of the court by police details.

Guzheti's mother was briefly taken to the police post at the courts before being set free.

"This is not juju as most of you suspect...it's just a leaf," the woman could be heard telling the police and court officials.

With Guzheti's mother out of the way, the trial continued with the 21-year-old man pleading not guilty to stealing a Nokia E63 cellphone and unlawfully using violence against Mr Brighton Nchoma.

It is the state's case that on November 2 this year Nchoma was at Boka Tobacco Auction floors seeking transport to Waterfalls when a trio, including Guzheti, approached him and ordered him to surrender all his belongings.
