A 28-year-old Harare woman is battling for her life at Harare Central Hospital after she set herself ablaze last Monday when she suspected that her husband was having an extra-marital affair.

Harare provincial police spokesperson Inspector Tadius Chibanda said Cecilia Mutume of house number 1603,  Sunningdale 2 found another woman's identity card in their house and asked her husband to return it to the owner.

According to the police, Mutume went to return the card and left his mobile phone in the house. While he was gone, it is understood, Mutume answered a call and spoke to a woman who wanted to speak to her husband.

She realised that the woman she was speaking to was the owner of the identity card she had found in her house.

When her husband returned Mutume asked him about the woman and a dispute started.

It is reported that Mutume rushed into the kitchen and took a primus stove and poured paraffin all over her body before setting herself ablaze.

Her husband managed to put out the fire, but she suffered severe burns.
