Break in at Jet shop

THIEVES broke into a Jet shop in Harare and got away with clothing worth more than $5 000 early Sunday morning. They smashed a front window of the shop and cut the burglar bars to gain entry.
Harare provincial police spokesperson Inspector Tadius Chibanda said no arrests had been made.
"According to the shop manager, Mr Farikai Masiyamhuru (32), he locked the shop yesterday (Sunday) at around 1630hours and activated the alarms," he said.
A security guard noticed the break-in at around 6am. Insp Chibanda said the guard was not employed to guard the shop.
"The security guard then phoned the manager to inform him about the incident and they discovered that several trousers, shirts, jeans and various other clothes all worth over $5 000 had been stolen," he said.
Insp Chibanda said it was imperative for businesses to ensure their premises were well protected.
He pointed out that cases of unlawful entry and burglaries spiked towards the end of the year, and also advised people to secure their homes, especially when they planned to travel.
"Company and shop owners should also employ security guards from renowned security companies and ensure that their alarms are working properly," Insp Chibanda said.
Last month, about $58 000 was stolen from a TM supermarket in Gweru by a group of unidentified men who climbed through a window at around 2am and blew open the safe with explosives.
The burglars not only stole $58 000, but proceeded to burn small denomination notes that were in the safe.
