Ex-President of Chiefs, Chief Mangwende dies

FORMER President of Chiefs, Chief Jonathan Mangwende has died.

Mashonaland East Provincial Affairs Minister Simbaneuta Mudarikwa this morning confirmed the passing on of Chief Mangwende in Pretoria, South Africa yesterday.

Mudarikwa told reporters he was on his way to the late chief's homestead and would give details soon.

Jonathan Tafirenyika Chibanda is the son of Chief Chataika Chibanda Mangwende. Chibanda become chief Mangwende in 1926 and died in 1936. Chibanda only ruled for 10years.

Jonathan Tafirenyika Chibanda become chief Mangwende in 1968. Prior to that he was a teacher at Chinhenga primary school.

Chief Fortune Charumbira replaced Chief Jonathan Mangwende who did not seek re-election in 2005.
