ZIMBABWE should brace for heavy rains in excess of 80 millimetres in the next three days, the Meteorological Services Department, has said.

"More heavy rain is expected in most areas of Zimbabwe from this evening to tomorrow. While noting that weather patterns may change abruptly, as of now, indications are that there would be strong winds, sharp downpours and widespread flash floods in excess of 80 mm along the main watershed," the Met Department said in a statement.

Members of the public have been warned to desist from crossing flooding rivers and urged to exercise caution at night when approaching low lying areas and bridges.

"People should not take shelter under trees during a thunderstorm as there is enhanced risk of being struck by lightning. They should refrain from parking vehicles under big and old trees as these may fall down," read the statement.

The public has also been warned of the danger of electricity poles falling due to the strong winds while motorists have been urged to drive carefully on all roads.
