The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) will this festive holiday mount 24-hour roadblocks and conduct searches on selected travellers as part of efforts to reduce road traffic accidents and crime.
Law enforcement agents will also patrol central business districts to ensure crime-free holidays.
National police spokesperson Chief Superintendent Paul Nyathi said police, the Traffic Safety Council of Zimbabwe (TSCZ), the Vehicle Inspection Depot (VID) and local authorities were collaborating on the exercise.
"We are already at work with roadblocks countrywide. We are also impounding vehicles, arresting errant drivers and also conducting searches," he said.
TSCZ managing director Mr Obio Murambiwa Chinyere challenged travellers to work together in reducing road accidents.
"There is a lot of excitement during the festive season. No matter how old one is, every Christmas sounds like the first for many. Surprisingly, some people seem impatient to live a day longer," he said
