The eldest son of the late Zanla commander General Josiah Magama Tongogara, Conrad Tongogara said all is set for the commemoration of the 34th anniversary of the death of his father.
In an interview with the state media last week Conrad Tongogara said the Josiah Magama Tongogara Legacy Foundation will unveil scholarships to less privileged primary and secondary pupils at the ceremony.
"The preparations are now at an advanced stage. The commemorations will be held on the 26th of this month, the day our father departed from us," he said.
We are going to start with a prayer at 1 Commando Regiment in the morning. From there, we are going to lay wreaths at the National Heroes' Acre.
The main event is going to be held at the Army Headquarters. The event will simply be commemorating the life of our father, who sacrificed his life for the independence and freedom the country is enjoying." Regarding reports of a family feud, he said it has been resolved and the family was now united.
"Yes, there were family problems and we have managed to deal with them. We are now a big, united, Tongogara family. You also need to realise that Tongogara is a big brand and everyone wants to be associated with that name.
"So, there were external forces which were causing a lot of confusion, but I am glad we have managed to deal with it. We are now together, united as a family." Cde Tongogara died in a horrific car crash in Mozambique on December 26, 1979.
