Holidays accidents death toll rises to 56

Police say 56 people have been killed and 293 others injured in 681 recorded accidents countrywide since the festive season began.
Statistics released by the Zimbabwe Republic Police indicate that there is a significant reduction in road accident during the festive season as compared to 2012 during the same period.
Last year, 109 people were killed and 546 others injured in 712 accidents recorded last year.
967 vehicles have been impounded so far and only 809 vehicles were impounded last year.
63 thousand and fifty one tickets have been issued to drivers for various offences.
Police Commissioner-General Augustine Chihuri says the reduction of road carnage during this festive season requires participation of both motorists and the law enforcement agent.
Chihuri has appealed to every Zimbabwean to preserve lives on the country's roads.
