A 44-year-old man has been jailed for 20 years after raping and impregnating his 13-year-old daughter.
The man from Rubi resettlement area pleaded guilty to rape charges when he appeared before Gweru Regional Magistrate Mr Morgan Nemadire recently.
He was convicted and sentenced to an effective 20 years in prison after Mr Nemadire considered the gravity of the offence.
The State proved that the man raped and impregnated his daughter, who had just completed Grade 7.
Sometime in June this year, on a day unknown to the prosecutor, the man was left with the complainant at their homestead while his wife went to attend a funeral in Shurugwi.
During the night, the accused, who was sharing a same bedroom with the girl, got into his daughter's blankets as she slept on the floor.
He told her that the weather was cold and therefore they should share their blankets.
The man stripped his daughter naked and raped her twice that night.
The matter came to light when the girl complained of stomach pains and was taken to hospital by her mother.
It was discovered that the girl was five months pregnant and she revealed the rape.
The matter was then reported to the police leading to the man's arrest.
Ms Ndakuda Chikuni prosecuted.
Meanwhile, a simple slap on the cheek could prove costly for a 21-year-old Domboshava man who smacked a colleague across the face, only for the latter to fall down and then die.
Tafadzwa Karumbidza of Molife Village under Chief Chinamhora last week appeared in court facing murder charges following the altercation.
Harare magistrate Mr Donald Ndirowei advised Karumbidza to apply for bail at the High Court. He is expected back in court on January 2.
Appearing for the State, Ms Sharon Mashavira alleges that on December 15 Karumbidza slapped Witness Cheza following an argument.
It is alleged that Cheza fell on his back and started bleeding from the mouth and nose.
Cheza was taken to Makumbe Mission Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
