Seventy people have been killed in road accidents so far since the beginning of the festive season, 15 December, registering close to a 50 per cent decrease as 132 lives were lost during the same period last year.

Police spokesperson, Chief Superintendent Paul Nyathi applauded Zimbabweans for taking part in the reduction of road carnage during this festive season and encouraged the spirit of responsibility to continue prevailing until the end of the holidays.

The past festive seasons have been bloody with human error being the major cause.

In South Africa, 855 people have died on the roads since December 1st this year, leaving blood stocks strained.

Early Saturday morning, a child was killed and 16 people were injured when a pioneer coach bus overturned near Chinhoyi Caves.

According to eyewitnesses, the accident occurred after the bus driver failed to negotiate a curve around one o'clock in the morning.

The injured were taken to Chinhoyi Hospital.

Meanwhile, two armed robbers who shot and killed a foreign currency dealer in Ngundu have been arrested.

Police arrested Isaac Mlambo Kuhocha, who led to the arrest of his accomplice, Mike Sithole.

More than R11000 and a pistol were recovered from the two.
