Trust Chikohora, the ZIMBABWE National Chamber of Commerce (ZNCC) president has been dragged to court for allegedly damaging property belonging to a tenant whom he evicted from his Gweru property.
Chikohora is alleged to have forcibly evicted Ms Kundai Natasha Machisa after throwing her property outside the house on May 1.
Ms Machisa, through her lawyers Chikanda and Maputsenyika Legal Practitioners, approached Gweru Magistrates' Court seeking an order compelling Chikohora to reinstate her occupation of house number 6365 Nzembe Close in Southview.
Ms Machisa also claims that she also lost US$500 and R350 in the confusion that followed the eviction.
In her founding affidavit, the complainant says Chikohora, who resides at number 56, 7th Street, threw her property outside the house and changed the doors' locks.
She said the feud between her and the landlord started when the businessman allegedly hiked rentals unilaterally.
"I started having problems with the respondent when he unilaterally increased the rent from US$220 to US$240 in December 2010," said Ms Machisa.
"I had offered to leave the premises by April 30, 2011 but the respondent rejected my olive branch and proceeded to go the court way."
She said Chikohora approached the courts seeking an order to evict her, a matter which is still pending after she entered an appearance to defend.
"On May 1, 2011 and in my absence, the respondent unlawfully removed all my belongings from inside the house and scattered them outside and changed the door locks to prevent me from entering the house," she said.
When contacted for a comment, Chikohora confirmed that he had evicted Ms Machisa saying he took great care to make sure that nothing was damaged or lost. "We also called an independent person to witness everything that took place in case of any such allegations in the future," said Chikohora.
He said he could not say much on the case since it was still pending before the courts.
