A 21-year-old Harare man a appeared in court on Tuesday accused of 'leaking' 2013 O'Level Geography examination paper. He was charged with contravening the Zimbabwe Schools Examination Council Act (1994).

The suspect, Tichaona Francis Mutanhaura, of Kuwadzana Extension in Harare was not asked to plead to the charge when he appeared before Harare magistrate Donald Ndirowei. He was remanded to January 9 next year on $50 bail.

Prosecutor Sharon Mashavira alleged that on November 14 at Ximex Mall in Harare's central business district, Mutanhaura accessed the November 2013 "O" Level Geography Paper 2 examination paper from an unknown source.

He allegedly sold the examination paper to one Denford Makawa who subsequently sold it to one Brian Mudzengerere.

The paper was allegedly intercepted by students at Churchill Boys High School after they saw Mudzengerere going through a paper which contained questions similar to the set examination.

The students made a report about the incident to the school headmaster Patson Mugwanda, who immediately retrieved the examination paper from Mudzengerere. Makawa allegedly disclosed that he had bought the paper from Mutanhaura.

This led to the recovery of another examination paper from Makawa, who is a Form 4 pupil at Herentals College, Robert Mugabe Road in Harare. The court heard that the headmaster handed Mudzengerere and Makawa to the police.

The pair implicated other suspects Musa Leon Mutukwa and Gift Jefrey Chigawu, leading to their arrest. It is further alleged that police investigations established that Mutukwa, a Form 4 student at Bilaal Academy in Epworth, with the assistance of his classmate Chigawu and Makawa sold the question papers for $40 per copy.
