Holiday accidents death toll rises to 87

Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) say 87 people have died while 513 others were injured in road traffic accidents since the beginning of the festive season after one person was killed in Harare on Tuesday.
Last year, 170 people were killed and 763 others injured during the same period.
Police spokesperson, Chief Superintendent Paul Nyathi said 1 013 accidents have been recorded this season compared to 1 106 last year during the same period.
He also said police have issued out 94 514 tickets for various offences and impounded 1 391 defective vehicles.
Chief Superintendent Nyathi urged motorists to continue exercising caution on roads and observing rules and regulations that guide them.
He also urged motorists and the general public not to cross flooded rivers as they risk drowning.
By Tuesday morning, the death toll had risen to 86 following the death of five more people who died on Monday in separate road accidents.
Three of the deaths occurred in Mashonaland West province while Mashonaland Central and Masvingo provinces recorded one death each.
