Masvingo records highest festive accidents

The country recorded a lower number of deaths in road accidents during the Christmas and New Year holidays compared to the same period in 2012.
The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) says Masvingo Province however recorded the highest number of traffic accident deaths during the period, with 17 people having been killed so far.
According to the latest holiday traffic accidents statistics released by the ZRP, 89 people died this holiday compared to 178, who died during the same period in 2012.
In 1076 accidents recorded this holiday, 568 people were injured compared to 775, who were injured out of the 1140 accidents which occurred in 2012.
ZRP national spokesperson, Chief Superintendent Paul Nyathi confirmed that the police have so far impounded 1409 vehicles and issued 98946 tickets for various bookable offences.
In the death toll statistics released per province, Chief Superintendent Nyathi said Harare recorded 10 deaths, Bulawayo (one), Midlands (five), Manicaland (16), Masvingo (17), Mashonaland Central (10), Mashonaland East (eight), Mashonaland West (10), Matabeleland North (six) and Matabeleland South (six) deaths.
