A mentally challenged Hurungwe man reportedly stormed a bar in Magunje Growth Point holding an iron bar and fatally struck a 29-year-old man who was drinking beer with his friend.
The victim, Edmore Matashu found himself at the end of Sylvester Chikwanda's amok moment as he enjoyed his favourite beverage with friends at Mukanya Beerhall.
Chikwanda is said to have stormed into the bar with an iron bar and headed straight to strike Matashu once at the back of the head before disappearing from the scene.
Matashu is said to have fallen from the elevated stool he was seated on. He instantly became unconscious as he bled profusely.
Although his uncle Mr Aggrey Matashu, a businessman at the Growth Point with whom he stayed, immediately rushed him to Magunje Hospital, the victim was pronounced dead on arrival.
Mr Matashu claimed that Chikwanda had on two previous occasions unsuccessfully tried to kill his nephew over the issue of menial jobs.
However, police could not substantiate the claim.
Meanwhile, Chikwanda appeared before Karoi magistrate Mr Robson Finsin last Thursday facing murder charges.
Mr Finsin remanded the accused in custody to January 15 and ordered that he be examined under the Mental Health Act.
