TWO Zimbabweans died on the spot on Saturday at Kalomo town, Zambia when a Lusaka bound commuter omnibus they were travelling in burst a tyre and overturned.

Eight Zambians also sustained serious injuries in the accident.

According to Zambian media, the vehicle - a Noah - was travelling from Livingstone to Lusaka when the driver lost control of the vehicle after it burst one of its rear tyres.

As the driver grappled to regain control, the two Zimbabweans, Noel Moyo, 53, and Marko Phiri, 32, both of Mkhosana Township, Victoria Falls, where reportedly thrown out of the vehicle and died after sustaining serious head injuries. Southern Province Police Chief Charity Katanga yesterday confirmed the incident.

"The accident happened when the driver of a Noah, registration number AJC 9575 driven by Sianzu Moonga, 21, had a tyre burst. The vehicle lost control and overturned in the middle of the road. Two passengers died after sustaining head injuries. Eight others were admitted to Kalomo General Hospital," said Katanga.
