Police officers have been urged to acquaint themselves with the provisions of the country's new constitution so that they operate within the confines of the law.
This was said by the Zimbabwe Republic Police Deputy Commissioner-General Josephine Shambare at a ceremony where Senior Assistant Commissioner Godfrey Munyonga took over command of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID).
Senior Assistant Commissioner Munyonga took over from Senior Assistant Commissioner Simon Nyathi, who is now Chief Staff Officer- Internal Investigations.
Deputy Commissioner General Shambare urged all departments within the police force to not only understand the country's supreme law, but to also understand government policies such as the new economic blue print, ZIM ASSET.
She also urged the police to maintain harmonious relations with the National Prosecuting Authority, courts of law, and the Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Services amongst other stakeholders as part of their mandate to fight and manage crime.
Other senior officers taking up new posts are Assistant Commissioner Dorothy Kupara who is now taking an administration post in the Harare province, while Assistant Commissioner Priscilla Makotose will be administrator in the CID.
The changes are in line with ZRP human resources strategy aimed at enhancing multi-skilling.
