Civil servants and Government are headed for a bruising fight after reports emerged that workers will get salary increments of between $50 and $100 across all grades.
Workers' unions representing civil servants have been pushing government to raise public workers' salaries to a minimum of $540 in line with the PDL.
Government sounded like it is only prepared to offer $50 and $100 across all grades.
Public Service minister Nicholas Goche late last year promising to award civil servants a token increment.
At the formation of the now defunct inclusive government in February 2009, $100 vouchers were introduced to enable civil servants to buy goods from shops rather than exchange them for cash.
Government will this year decompress grades of civil servants and start paying them according to experience, seniority and qualifications.
This comes amid reports that many civil servants, mainly those in the education sector, do not aspire to be promoted because the salary difference is insignificant and can be as little as $1.
