Police Commissioner declares war with perpetrators of violence

Police have declared war on unruly elements in some political parties saying they will not allow anyone to disrupt the peace and stability prevailing in the country.

Police Commissioner Charles Mfandaedza, stood in for Commissioner General Augustine Chihuri at a funeral parade held at Morris depot in Harare for the late Inspector Petros Mutedza, who was killed on duty by suspected MDC-T hooligans.

Mfandaedza warned political parties who are disrupting peace and order prevailing in the country that the police will decisively deal with any perpetrators of violence without fear.

He said: "It is quite disturbing to note that opposition political parties and some civic organisations who claim to be masters of democracy and peace are today at the helm of causing violence, maiming and murdering our unsung heroes like the late Inspector Mutedza."

Commissioner Mfandaedza described the death of Inspector Mutedza who was killed by suspected MDC-T youths in Glen view as big a blow to law enforcement as the late Inspector was a hardworking officer in preserving law and order.

The late Inspector Mutedza was attested into the ZRP as a constable and excelled as the best recruit of his squad during training at Morris Depot.

After training he was posted to Mabelreign Police station where he worked in various sections including the Police Internal Security Intelligence.

In 2001 he was transferred to Dzivarasekwa Police station where he was promoted to the rank of Sergeant the same year.

Mutedza was promoted to the rank of Inspector and was transferred to Kuwadzana Police Station assuming duty as Member in Charge Crime.

In 2009, he was transferred to Borrowdale Police station as Officer in Charge Administration.

Meanwhile, a sombre mood engulfed Mabelreign Police Camp as workmates and relatives bade farewell to the late ZRP Officer, Inspector Petros Mutedza who was murdered by suspected MDC-T youths in Glen view.

The death of Inspector Mutedza has left many people shocked as they questioned the logic behind the barbaric acts by suspected MDC-T thugs who took the law into their own hands by killing an innocent policeman who was on national duty.

However, 15 suspected MDC-T supporters have been picked up by police in connection with the murder.
 
The body of the late Inspector Mutedza has been ferried to his rural home in Mukumbura, Mt. Darwin. Burial is expected this Wednesday.
 
After the murder of Inspector Mutedza, the public has condemned the MDC-T leader, Mr Morgan Tsvangirai and his party, saying time has now come for the law enforcement agents to apply stringent measures on hooligans bent on disrupting peace and order in the country.
