Armed robber shot dead by police

A 30-YEAR-OLD suspected robber and car jacker was shot dead in Masvingo after exchanging fire with police last week.
The incident occurred in Zimuto.
Provincial police spokesperson for Masvingo, Chief Inspector Peter Zhanero, confirmed the incident and said the alleged robber was armed with a gun at the time of the shooting.
Tinashe Pedzisai Hinga is suspected to have hijacked a Honda Fit (registration number ADE 0458) in Kwekwe on January 10 and drove it to Masvingo.
On January 15 at around 6pm, police in Chatsworth were tipped off that the car was in the area and they set an ambush for the suspected robber.
When Hinga saw the police closing in on him, it is understood, he opened fire and sped past them.
Police returned fire and shot Hinga in a fierce exchange.
Hinga allegedly sped for about 300m before getting out of the car and attempting to flee on foot but the died soon afterwards due to the gunshot wounds.
Chief Insp Zhanero said they recovered dynamite and property worth $500.
