A ZIMBABWEAN couple on holiday in South Africa was robbed of R5,100, two cellphones and car keys at gunpoint by two unknown men who stormed into their room at a lodge in Musina.

South African police spokesperson for Musina Lieutenant Peter Mudau said the incident occurred last Friday at about 1.30am at the unidentified lodge in Musina Town.

The suspects found the complainants fast asleep and woke them up from their deep slumber. They pulled out a pistol and a knife and demanded money amid threats to kill the couple and their eight year-old child if they resisted.

"We are handling a case of armed robbery in which a Zimbabwean man and his wife were robbed of their cellphones, car keys and R5,100 when two men brandishing a pistol and an Okapi stormed into their room," said Lt Mudau.

Soon after committing the offence, the two armed robbers bolted out of the room and fled after firing two shots in the air to scare away security guards as they took to their heels.

Lt Mudau said the suspects were still at large, adding that they were still investigating the matter.
