Serial rapist convicted of 21 counts of rape & robbery

A serial rapist, Thomas Chirembwe, who was convicted of 21 counts of rape and robbery, will be sentenced on Tuesday.
Chirembwe, who was facing 30 counts of rape and robbery, was convicted of 21 counts after nine other complainants did not turn up to give evidence.
However, magistrate Rodgers Kachambwa ordered the police to continue looking for the other nine witnesses so that they give their evidence.
The state alleges that Chirembwe was pouncing on women in the comfort of their homes, threatening them with an iron bar and a knife before ordering them to give him money after which he would rape them.
More than two years ago, a Harare magistrate, Peter Kumbawa sentenced another serial rapist, Mlamleli Mpofu to 90 years in prison after convicting him on 19 counts of rape and robbery.
