A 33-year-old Inyathi man was arrested last week after he took advantage of his wife's absence and raped his eight-year-old daughter.

Manicaland provincial police spokesperson Inspector Enock Chishiri confirmed the arrest of the man from Village 37C, Chiome, Chief Makoni.

It is alleged that the man forcibly took the girl into his bedroom and raped her once in the absence of her step-mother.

He threatened to beat the girl if she reports the matter to anyone, but the girl rushed to report the matter to the police soon after the incident.

The man was arrested.

In an unrelated incident, police in Nyazura have launched a manhunt for a 25-year-old man who allegedly raped a four-year-old girl and disappeared recently.

Insp Chishiri said they were keen to interview Taitos Chivanhu of Chimbudzi Village, Chief Makoni, in connection with the rape incident.

He said the girl was left in the custody of her grandmother by her mother who had gone to the garden about a kilometre away from their house when she was allegedly raped by Chivanhu.

"Chivanhu came to the homestead and lured the little girl into one of the family bedrooms and raped her once.

"He told the girl not to tell anyone what had happened before leaving. The girl spilled the beans to her mother when she returned from the garden.

"Chivanhu vanished soon after realising that the girl had reported the matter to her mother. He is still at large," said Insp Chishiri.

Insp Chishiri appealed for information leading to Chivanhu's arrest.
