Kay Muchena (40) of number 8 Rainharm Farm Nehanda in Harare has been jailed for 18 months for breaking his daughter's arm for eating a piece of meat he sent her to steal from the landlord's kitchen.
The girl told the court that her father never sent her to school and frequently beats her up.
"My father sent me on several occasions to steal meat from our landlord's house," she said.
Muchena dismissed the allegations saying the girl had a lying demon .
"I went with her to prophets for deliverance and they told me that she has evil spirits," he said.
The prosecutor Ms Francesca Mukumbiri told the court that sometime in November last year Muchena assaulted his daughter with a whip and a metal bar for eating a piece of meat without his permission.
The Herald reports that Muchena pleaded not guilty to contravening the Children's Act when he appeared before magistrate Ms Tsatsawani Ndava.
He was convicted on overwhelming evidence and sentenced to two years in prison.
Six months were suspended on condition he does not commit a similar offence in the next five years.
The eight-year-old girl, who had not yet received medical attention to date, bears multiple scars from heavy canning by the father.
