The Minister of Defence, Dr Sydney Sekeramayi has warned that the influx of illegal immigrants into SADC countries has a potential to destabilise not only the region, but the continent.
Dr Sekeramayi was presenting a lecture to officers attending Junior Staff Course Number 27 at the Junior Staff College.
He said forces opposed to the country and the region can easily take advantage of such lapses in immigration control and infiltrate security structures.
"We are concerned about undocumented immigrants who continue to cross into our borders. Such illegal immigrants are coming from other African countries and Asian countries. This has a potential to see western military officers being deployed in our region," he said.
Sekeramayi said the SADC region has put in place defence mechanism to ensure peace and security prevails in Africa and urged members of security organisations to understand Zimbabwe's and other countries' defence policies to enable efficient services when time calls.
The Minister of Defence also expressed concern over the continued attack on Zimbabwe by western countries for empowering its citizens.
He said such machinations are driven by imperialists who want to loot resources from African countries.
The course is being attended by officers from Zimbabwe's security services and the SADC region.
