There was drama within the Harare central business district on Tuesday when relatives of a deceased man dumped his corpse at the Mahommed Mussa Wholesale premises, accusing the shop's security personnel of murder, ZBC News reported.
The Mushayamano family from Chitungwiza dumped the corpse of 26-year-old man, Anywhere Mushayamano whom they claim was severely beaten by the shop's security guards on the 13th of November last year leading to his death a few days later in hospital.
The deceased, who was allegedly accused by the shop's security of shoplifting a 500g sachet of washing powder, was allegedly assaulted and died four days later at Parirenyatwa Hospital.
The relatives told the ZBC that what caused their anger was the fact that the assailants never bothered to inform them of what had happened but left the badly injured man at hospital.
The relatives claimed they only got to know about the fate of their beloved through the deceased's friend.
The tension that was threatening to degenerate into chaos was quelled by police who dispersed the large crowd that had gathered around the coffin.
It also took the intervention of the police to persuade the relatives to take the corpse away from the business premises.
ZRP Spokesperson for Harare Province, Assistant Inspector Tarirai Dube confirmed that the relatives finally took the body away, adding that the case of murder was reported in November last year and is being investigated at Harare Central Police Station.
Efforts to get a comment from the Mohammad Mussa management were fruitless as they closed business following the incident.
