Twelve students from the Zimbabwe National Students Union (Zinasu), arrested while addressing other students at Harare Polytechnic College on Monday, are still detained at Harare Central Police Station, their lawyer, Gift Mutisi has revealed.
The students are Gilbert Mutubuki, who is Zinasu president, Makomborero Haruzivishe, Patrick Danga, Tererai Sithole, Shepherd Sithole, Tamutswa Chikonyora, Raymond Sango, Ephraim Mtombeni, Kingsley Sibanda, Vision Moyo, Anne Makoni and Takudzwa Dzumbunu.
Mutisi, who is from the Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights (ZLHR), told The Zimbabwe Mail that the students were likely to appear in court today.
"The students were arrested on Monday and were detained at Harare Central Police. Today (yesterday) I went to the police who informed me that their issue was being handled by the Law and Order Section, but they have not been charged.
"From my understanding, they are likely to appear in court on Wednesday," said Mutisi.
According to Zinasu national coordinator Samuel Gwenzi, the student leadership were addressing bread and butter issues at the college when police pounced on them.
