Lovemore Madhuku's new political project appears to be floundering after being rocked by key desertions while a top ally added salt to the wounds by telling the pro-democracy activist and law professor to "grow up", and fast.
The NCA party, formed from the ashes of the now defunct constitutional lobby group by the same name just four months ago suffered a major knock early this week after two key members resigned citing irreconcilable policy differences with the party's senior management.
Key ally and fiery MDC99 leader Job Sikhala also said Madhuku needed to "grow-up" in another stinging attack on the interim party leader.
"Ours is a merger but we remain independent of their in-house things. We are MDC99 and we remain as such. If our partners fight it's their own business that does not affect the soul of MDC99. If we find them confused, we are happy to go it alone," said Sikhala on Tuesday.
"I am shocked there is a lot of confusion among our partners and we urge them to grow up or else we pull out until they solve their childish quarrels. Don't forget we are MDC 99. I am not a member of the NCA party, that's why l never bought their membership card."
NCA spokesperson Mardock Chivasa said although they had not received any communication from Sikhala the party would accept his resignation.
In November last year, Sikhala announced he was disbanding his MDC99 outfit which he formed after falling out with another MDC splinter group headed by Welshman Ncube in 2010.
