Renowned political commentator Eldred Masunungure at the weekend said Tsvangirai should have resigned after the party's humiliating poll loss in July last year.
Masunungure said "there will be blood" if the MDC-T goes ahead to hold an elective congress this year or whenever it is due.
"Elsewhere in the world, if a political leader loses three presidential elections, they resign voluntarily.
"He needs not be pushed despite explanations provided for the loss, Nikuv or other forms of rigging do not wash away his culpability.
"The buck stops with Tsvangirai," said Masunungure.
Masunungure said Tsvangirai's resignation would augur well, not only for democracy, but also for the former Prime Minister's legacy.
"He should not be forced because it is not good for the party's internal democracy, the country's democracy as well as his legacy. It would have been an act of Machiavellian proportions had he offered to step-aside.
"It would have been an unparalleled show of statesmanship if he had resigned," he said.
