Coltart fumes of PSMAS salary cuts

Former Education minister David Coltart has condemned the slashing of salaries at the troubled Premier Service Medical Aid Society (PSMAS) arguing that the money still remained too high.
Following revelations that PSMAS now retired group chief executive officer Cuthbert Dube was earning an outrageous $230 000 per month, the medical aid society slashed the salary to $60 000 per month and other group executives US$30 000 each.
Some executives who were claiming school fees as high as US$48 000 a year were also reduced to about US$6 000.
"I just wonder what some of these 'executives' in companies are smoking or what planet or country they think they are living in," Coltart said.
"Just because US$230,000 was outrageous does not make a salary of US$60,000 a month acceptable. If a Goverment Minister can earn US$3400 per month including allowances (which was my last take home pay check as Minister in August last year) then how possibly can any CEO justify a figure of US$60,000 per month?
"The other thing I am waiting for is a breakdown of what all CEOs of parastatals have been earning. As Minister I checked and approved the conditions of all CEOs of parastatals falling under my jurisdiction, such as Zimsec and the SRC, and they did not earn anything like these incredible figures. But I would be intrigued to know how much, for example, the CEO of the Minerals Marketing Corporation of Zimbabwe has earned the last few years. I think it may be another interesting revelation."
