Two people died, while two others were swept by water when a Zupco bus they were travelling was trapped in a gully along the Gweru- Mandamabwe road this morning.
The bus that was travelling from Beitbridge was swept by water at a bridge at Musabezi River in the Tongogara area of the Midlands province.
Police spokesperson, Chief Superintendent Paul Nyathi said a ZUPCO bus carrying 28 passengers was travelling from Beitbridge when the driver attempted to go through a bridge submerged under water at Musabezi River near Mukandapi Business Centre.
Chief Superintendent Nyathi said two people died, while an elderly woman and a child are still missing.
The driver sustained minor injuries, while the remaining 24 passengers escaped unhurt.
Meanwhile, the police have warned motorists intending to use the Masvingo route to Gweru that the road is blocked due to the accident, while advising that they use the Gweru- Zvishavane or Gweru-Mvuma roads.
Heavy rains which have been experienced this season have caused serious damage to public infrastructure such as roads and bridges.
Government recently moved in to evacuate people living near the Tokwe-Mukorsi area as volumes of water were increasing.
