The Harare City Council continues to be dodged by bad publicity with more and more residents raising their concerns over the reinstatement of Town Clerk Tendai Mahachi.

A few belongings, a Holy Bible and a motivational book in hand, 42 year old Philosophy Josiah Nyapfumbi says he will stay put at Town House on a hunger strike until Mahachi's suspension is upheld.

"I will continue seeking recourse as a resident because I think the rot here is getting too much. The Bible will inspire me to be steadfast because I was sent by the Holy Spirit to do this," said Nyapfumbi.

Adding weight to Nyapfumbi's cause was a group of residents representing the Restoration of Human Rights Zimbabwe (ROHR) who besieged the Town House demanding justice to what they referred to as corrupt activities by council.

Problems at Town House started with revelations that top management were plundering council awarding themselves obscene salary pecks while ignoring service delivery.

Council then ordered Town Clerk Dr Tendai Mahachi to submit salary schedules which he failed to do.

The Mayor Bernard Manyenyeni in turn suspended the Town Clerk, but the decision was reversed by Local Government, Public Works and National Housing Minister, Dr Ignatius Chombo who reinstated Dr Mahachi.
