The ministry of Transport and Infrastructural Development has started slashing grass along the country's highways in a bid to reduce accidents.
Transport and Infrastructural Development minister Obert Mpofu said the tall grass along the country's roads due to incessant rains was a cause of concerns to motorists.
"The question of tall grass as a result of incessant rains that we have been receiving is of concern to motorists and to the Ministry of Transport," Mpofu said in the national assembly.
"The Ministry is doing everything in its power to cut the grass and I would like to appeal to the local authorities to assist in this regard.
"We have started doing that and there is not going to be any timeframe to it. We will cut the grass as and when demand requires and also the funds allowing."
Mpofu was responding to Zanu PF legislator Dexter Nduna who wanted to know what government was doing to control the tall grass.
"Considering that during and after the rainy season every year, the grass grows quickly along the verges of the roads. I would like to know what Government policy is, regarding the time frames when the Ministry of Transport cuts the grass along the roads, especially the highways, to what magnitude and which periods," Nduna said.
