Zimbabwe Government has failed to effect a paltry $54 pay rise for civil servants as members of the Zimbabwe National Army (ZNA) got payslips indicating no salary adjustment.

Traditionally, soldiers are the first civil servants to be paid.

Teachers and other government are due next week.

Some solders told ZimbabweFocus that they felt cheated by government.

"We have been received our payslips for February pay but there is no salary increment. We feel cheated hat after protracted salary wages increases, government agreed to give us between $54 and $79. But they did not honor their pledge"

" We were expecting salary increments backdated to January as per government's promise" said one soldier.

Most soldiers have been ordered to look for alternative accommodation as ZNA t seeks to reduce the number of army personnel staying in its barracks and hence the costs of looking after them.

ZNA is struggling to meet its day-to-day operational needs due to the economic problems bedevilling the country.

Most  barrack canteens are serving only plain sadza because the army was unable to buy more food after its funds allocation was exhausted.

The Ministry of Defence got the second biggest chunk of the total budget allocation for 2014 of $3,6 billion. It received $368 million, followed closely by Home Affairs which got $364 million.

The army is reportedly, in addition to shortages of food, also struggling for basics such as uniforms.
