Residents of Manyame Park in Chitungwiza have lost household property worth thousands of dollars after their homes were flooded by the recent heavy rains.

Mrs Juliet Rutsito, who runs a chicken project at her house, lost 400 chicks which were submerged in water as floods continue to wreck havoc leaving a trail of destruction, ZBC reported.

Her precast wall also collapsed injuring her two children.

Windows were also destroyed in the process.

"I am stressed I lost my chickens after the rains flooded my house," said Mrs Rutsito.

Mrs Rutsito is not the only one affected by the incessant rains in Manyame Park.

With the floods reaching window levels, some of the residents were busy trying to construct barricades to protect their properties.

Others were drying their clothes, blankets and ruined furniture while some appeared to be counting their losses.

For the residents, the fault lies with the Chitungwiza Town Council for allocating them stands on wetlands.

"We would appreciate it if council can allocate us stands elsewhere away from wetlands," said one of the residents.

Monavale, Hatfield, Chitungwiza in-fills and Bluff hill are some of the residential areas that have been worst affected by rains as they are located in wetlands.
