A 30-year-old Chipinge man who was caught having an extra-marital affair with a married woman decided to take his own life last week after failing to stomach the embarrassment, the Manicapost reported.
Deputy Manicaland provincial police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Luxson Chananda confirmed the incident which happened in Chidzudzurwi Village under Chief Musikavanhu.
He said Growandsee Mazangasure was found hanging from a tree at his girlfriend's matrimonial home.
It is alleged that Witness Mambodo (30) had a long-standing dispute with his wife Tendai Sithole over infidelity allegations and their relationship had become so strained that they were now sleeping in separate rooms.
"Though he did not know who his rival was, Mambodo suspected that it was someone from their village.
"On the day in question, Mambodo woke up in the morning and found male shoe-prints coming from his wife's hut. He called his brother Morgan (40) to plan a way forward. They decided to follow the foot-prints and they led them to Growandsee's homestead, also in Chidzudzurwi Village," said Asst Insp Chananda.
The two then confronted Growandsee accusing him of having an extramarital affair with Tendai and he owned up.
"Before they left, the two threatened to report the matter to the chief.
"That night, Growandsee is alleged to have woken up around midnight and left his wife, Tafadzwa (28), sleeping.
"When she finally woke up she could not find her husband. She feared for the worst when she discovered that one of their ropes was missing," he said.
Asst Insp Chananda said Tafadzwa alerted other villagers and a search for Growandsee was launched.
He was found by Tendai hanging from a tree branch and a report was made to the police.
Growandsee's body was then taken to Chipinge District Hospital mortuary for post-mortem.
