Police commissioner general Augustine Chihuri has said police officers have up to the end of March to wind up operations in the public transport sector or suffer the consequences.
Chihuri in January issues an ultimatum for all police officers to shut down their operations in the public transport sector arguing that it compromised their discharge of duty.
The police chief also ordered that the officers scrap off from their kombis, addresses of police stations where the law enforcement agents were based saying the move was designed to exempt the vehicles from scrutiny.
"Those ones who have been operating kombis wind up. Time has been given to you. Once the deadline is up, anyone found out will have themselves to blame," Chihuri said.
The decision to ban police officers from public transport was made after a commission of inquiry was dispatched to all provinces to investigate complaints by transport operators over the presence of police officers in the public transport industry.
The police deployed crack anti-corruption teams at every police station countrywide as the force moves a gear up in fighting corrupt tendencies among its rank and file.
The dispatch followed calls on Chihuri to weed the force of corruption rather than the tradition of transferring officers fingered in graft to remote locations.
Police sources said communication would soon be dispatched to all stations informing them of the latest development.
