Service delivery at the Registrar General's office is expected to improve once the new structure that will house all sections within the department is complete.

In an interview in Harare on Wednesday, Registrar-General Tobaiwa Mudede said the department has been given targets to eliminate queues and to ensure that passports are issued within 10 working days.

At present, the department is forced to serve clients from makeshift structures made from precast wall subjecting the people to harsh weather conditions.

"The offices have separate halls to cater for applications, those collecting, the marriages section, identity cards issuance, citizenship section, births and deaths registration," he explained.

Some people who spoke to the ZBC News said service delivery at the passport offices has improved.

The Registrar General's office churns out about 2 500 passports a day.

It is already capable of producing travel documents within the targeted period of ten working days through the issuance of a 24-hour passport.

The department also produces a 3-day passport, while the one that was taking six months is now being made in four weeks.
