Man threatens to kill wife over divorce

A woman yesterday told the court that her husband, who is staying with a girlfriend, forces her to have unprotected sex against her will.

Joanna Mutubwe told magistrate Tafadzwa Muvhami that her husband Dickson Nyamaropa physically and verbally abuses her, forcing her to make love to him.

She was seeking a protection order against him at the Harare Civil Court.

Mutubwe told the court that Nyamaropa threatened to kill her if she divorces him.

She said he forces her to have unprotected sex with him yet he is staying with a girlfriend.

"I want him to remain with his girlfriend and stop coming home. I also want him to be stopped from verbally and physically abusing me. We have not divorced yet because he refused a token of divorce. I last saw him last month and he is refusing to be divorced. He is threatening to kill me if I divorce him."

Nyamaropa was not present to hear his case and magistrate Muvhami gave a default judgment since he had signed the return of service papers, confirming he knew he was wanted at the courts.

Muvhami, however, ordered Nyamaropa in absentia to stop threatening Mutubwe with any form of violence and not to abuse her in any way.

He also ordered him to stop forcing Mutubwe to have unprotected sex with him or risk being arrested for marital rape.
